Major Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc. can trace its beginning to a company in Franklin, Indiana, named Freese and Abplanap. James Freese, a Professional Engineer, and Gilmore Abplanap, a Registered Land Surveyor, who started their firm in 1946.
After approximately 25 years in business, the original owners decided to sell their business. Merrill Jones, who owned an architectural firm in Greenwood, Indiana, bought Freese and Abplanap, Inc. in 1982. Mr. Jones changed the name to MAJ Civil/Surveying, Inc. and moved the employees to their new office in Greenwood.
After nine successful years in the business, Mr. Jones decided to retire. He then offered the firm to two of his employees, Robert Etter and Robert Runyan. The two partners bought MAJ’s assets and kept all employees to form a new corporation, Major Land Surveying, Inc., in April of 1991. The Company’s current ownership, Anuj Verma, took control in December of 1996 and changed the name to Major Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc.
Major Engineering and Land Surveying, Inc., continues to offer a wide range of surveying services from mortgage surveys to subdivision design, commercial design, route surveys for state highways, road design, etc. Although most of its business had previously been generated in Johnson and surrounding counties, they company has been expanding its focus to cover the whole state of Indiana.
